Devezin to walk with seniors

Despite his status as a redshirt junior, David Devezin will walk with the seniors tonight on Senior Day at McCann. Marist takes on Hartford at 7:30 as part of the ESPNU BracketBuster format.
Due to a technicality with his transfer from Texas A&M to San Jacinto CC in Texas, Devezin may not get his redshirt season.
Marist sports information director Mike Ferraro alerted me to this breaking news yesterday and it's a realization that the standout point guard may not be around to anchor the Red Foxes next season. The idea of having Devezin, Goodwin, Kaba, and Drummond starting come MAAC time is certainly a recipe for MAAC success. Only time will tell if the issue gets sorted out...
In other MAAC news...the conference has fared exceptionally well in the ESNPU BracketBusters so far. Siena cruised past a stout Northern Iowa team while Niagara beat Illinois State by 12 last night. Canisius, Marist's next MAAC opponent, got past Bowling Green in overtime. With the MAAC as competitive as it is, any team could emerge from the tournament. That said, Siena will surely go to the tournament as an at-large bid based on their RPI rating and the showing against Northern Iowa. A mid-maor team getting an at-large bid is rare, but Siena has proven it can hang with the big boys.

While I think Devezin would be a good asset to next years team I think Hall is a more than capable replacement. I would be ok if Devezin cannot return. His inability to shoot really kills this team. Marist's biggest two problems in my opinion (even on our good teams of the past) are not enough athletisicm and too many one dimentional offensive players. If team's over compensate for Devezin's ability to drive to the rim by playing off him he becomes a total non factor.

Hall on the other hand can get to the rim AND shoot. He may be a better option at the PG next year beause he's more versatile.

I also would like to see Goodwin far from the starting line-up next season. He's a good hard working kid but the injuries sustained in past years have robbed him of his quickness and athletiscm. He can hit a wide open three but that's about it. He brings nothing else offensively and has too many 0 point 25 minute games.

Obviously Kaba and Drummond will play major minutes next year along with Hall. I hope to all of the freshman, Carter, Alexis, Prescott and Rusin in the rotation for next year. This incoming class of players will be by FAR the most athletic group in Marist history. All of them aside from Rusin are plus athletes and all bring good size to their positions.

I'm very optimistic about next years team...yes they will be young, but the size, strength and athletic ability that will be out on the court for us next year will be like nothing we've seen on past Marist squads. Plus there will still be some good shooters in the mix next year as well. We will be a matchup nightmare for pretty much everyone in the mAAC.
