Binghamton embarrasses Marist

Marist suffered an inexcusable loss today to the lowly Binghamton Bearcats.
Greer Wright led the way with 22 points in 36 minutes as Binghamton won, 70-52.
The much-anticipated debut of Casiem Drummond also never happened. Issues still linger about his eligibility.
If Drummond isn't able to suit up in a Marist uniform, this season is a lost cause. The only positive so far is that the Red Foxes two conference losses have been respectable.
The offense has struggled mightily and they shot just 29.4 percent today. The Bearcats shot 57.4 percent, however.
It's hard to find where Marist will win games. Binghamton is a team that was in complete disarray in the offseason. Players were kicked off the team (six), the coach resigned, and they managed to scrap together a team. This group managed to dominate Chuck Martin's prized recruits in their own gym.
A few observations from today's loss:
- Nice to have R.J. Hall back, unfortunately he isn't a difference maker in terms of wins and losses.
- Sam Prescott and Devin Price combined to shoot 5-of-20, a stark contrast from the days of Jordan and Whittington. Give them time, sadly that doesn't provide relief in the short term.
- Something Chris Douglas-Roberts has said in several post-game interviews, the Nets suffer from a lack of defined roles. The same could be said of Marist. The team does not seem organized and there is no clear pattern to Martin's moves on and off the bench. Daye Kaba (11 points) seemed like he would be a leader in Marist Madness, yet he's coming off the bench. There is something to be said for rewarding rookies, but I don't think there is any leadership on this team.

Why blame Binghamton? They didn't have anything to do with where the Marist program is today.

The program is embarrassing itself.

Can't get players eligible.

No discernible offense to speak of.

No ability to stop an opponent from scoring.

Only one freshman (Rusin) that shows the ability to pose an offensive threat.

No open scholarships until 2011.

The glass half empty crowd would say this is a long term mess in the making.

Yes, things are rough/bad right now, but its not the end of the world ... things will turn around in time. And Greg it is clear you don't like Martin but as a writer, you shouldn't show you personal views/dislikes through your work. That is Very unprofessional/ disrespectful.

All the bigs are sitting on the bench ... once all the pieces are available, weather that's next year or next week ... they will be good, their simply not complete yet. Things seem to just not be going well for Martin right now, I trust his vision tho ... but man it tough to be a Marist(Men)fan right now. We're gonna be fine tho.

Actually "Anonymous" I had a really good relationship with Chuck when I covered the team last year. I really respect him as a person and think he did a good job recruiting and getting Drummond to transfer here. Right now, I'm just blogging, I don't think anything is unprofessional unless I'm taking personal shots, and I'm not.

And to MidMajor fan, I'm not blaming Binghamton as a program, I'm just simply saying what happened yesterday. And to be fair, they made national headlines for the turmoil they went through in the offseason. I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing that up.

No problem at all with you pointing out Bingo's problems. They made their mess now they have to live with it and it's fair game.

I was just trying to say that Marist needs to take ownership of the recent developments if they want to stop this slide both on and off the court.

Completely agree. Although Brady left Martin and Marist in a huge mess, Martin repeatedly said he needed to get more guys (his guys) in there. While the team is filled with young, inexperienced players, it's up to the coaching staff to get the most out of them. There's also something to be said for Watson's paperwork issues and Drummond's ineligibility. Marist always seems to come up on the short end with these NCAA paperwork problems. That starts at the top, in my opinion.

You're right, they need to turn this thing around.
